The enthusiastic applause of the festival audience at the Konzerthaus Berlin is certain for the EUYO! The program with which the young musicians from all EU member states appear at Young Euro Classic is full of orchestral highlights: The spirited opening is provided by Bamboula from 1905, a Rhapsodic Dance by the Black British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, a much-performed artist during his lifetime whose recent rediscovery has brought his masterful works back to light.

After the intermission, Antonín Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony will be performed — a work that, with its wealth of musical ideas, tonal beauty, and rhythmic subtleties, shows the Bohemian master at the height of his creative powers.

And as the solo work, Dmitri Shostakovich’s First Cello Concerto is on the program — a piece the composer originally wrote for the exceptional cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. It’s a more than rewarding challenge for the much-acclaimed Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández.
