EUYO Summer Tour 2025 – Bolzano Festival Bozen
7 August 2025 saw the first concert in our Bolzano residency, and the last in our Summer Tour 2025’s first programme. The performance included Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s The Bamboula Op. 75, and a pre-concert talk at 19:00 with Prof. Giacomo Fornari.
The composer, conductor, and pianist Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was the son of a Creole father and an English mother. The Bamboula is part of a series of 24 melodies based on Black folk melodies from Africa, the West Indies, and the United States. The Bamboula came to North America via the transatlantic slave trade. In Coleridge-Taylor’s longer version for orchestra performed here, it is often described as a rhapsodic dance.

The European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) is a youth orchestra whose members are selected from the 27 member states of the European Union. Founded in 1976, it has served as a bridge between Europe’s music academies and the professional music world for generations of young musicians. The EUYO is regarded as one of the finest youth orchestras in the world, praised for its “extraordinarily high standards” and for performing at major European festivals such as the BBC Proms, the Salzburg Festival, and Young Euro Classic.
